Excursion up the East End of York Minster

Excursion up the scaffolding at the East End of York Minster - The Gild was privileged to be allowed a guided tour of the work being undertaken on the East End of the Minster (Saturday, 30th Sept 2006).

Thanks to Paul Deamer, one of the York Stone masons (and past Master of the Guild of Building) for a very enjoyable and interesting trip to the top of the East End of the Minster and a tour of the workshops afterwards.

Everyone who attended this unique visit had a great time and saw some views of York and the Minster that are seldom seen by anyone other than Stone masons and pigeons!

First group please

Lift to the top

It was pretty sturdy really, even if it did look like it had been made from an old Meccano set!

A long way down!

Eileen had just realised how high we were up here!

Eileen hangs on!

Restoration in progress

Just the gable end of Bedern hall was visible from where we were.
