This page is just a simple guide to help you with your research. Possibly the best place to start, if you live within range, is the York City Library. Here you will find an excellent set of references that detail the history of the Freemen families of York.

The Gild Archivist Richard Helstrip can also provide a search of the Freemen Rolls for a small fee. He also has access to the Gilds library and documents and can offer advice and help to anyone wishing to further their knowledge of the Freemen in York, the Strays or related subjects. He would be pleased to hear from any Gild members wanting help.
