Gild Membership
Membership
Membership is open to
all Freemen of the City of York, regardless of nationality,
gender or religion, and our membership is drawn from all over
the world, bound by a common interest in the City of York and
the welfare and education of its citizens.
Mission Statement
The Gild of Freemen of the City of York upholds the vow
of Freedom, Promotes the good reputation of the
City of York, Acts as guardian in protecting and developing
traditional rights
of Freedom, Preserves the custom of caring for the welfare
of Gild Freemen, Operates a benevolent fund, Subscribes to
charitable causes and Provides a range of social activities.
Being a Freeman and being a member of the Gild of Freemen
are not (recently) the same thing. If you are a Freeman of
York but not a member of the Gild and would like to become
one, then you may either contact the membership secretary
or the Clerk of the Gild of Freemen for an application
form (the postal address to use is on our 'Contact Us' page).

New members receive a welcome pack containing various items
including a
short history of the Gild and a lapel badge.
Subscriptions
The subscription year runs from 1st April to 31st March. Subscription
rates are shown below. There is also a form in the Spring
edition of 'Gild News' that can be used to renew subscriptions.
A new membership card will be sent to you as receipt of payment.
